BioEscalator resident companies pitched their innovative biotech solutions addressing some of the biggest medical needs to a panel of judges for a chance to win £2000 prize money. On the panel was Claire Shingler, BioEscalator Business Manager; Elodie Siney, BioEscalator Marketing and Events Manager; James Wong, Life Science Principle, OSI and Placi Espejo, Head of Business Development, Oxford Technology Park, who kindly sponsored the event.
PepGen, the winner of the event, gave an excellent pitch presented by principal scientist Smita Gunnoo. Smita did a brilliant job at delivering a polished presentation that clearly described the company's science and covered all the areas you would expect in a company pitch.
PepGen is creating a pipeline of disease-modifying therapeutics with the potential to safely and effectively target the root cause of serious genetic diseases, with an initial focus on neuromuscular diseases, driven by our proprietary Enhanced Delivery Oligonucleotide (EDO) platform.
The other judging categories were:
- Best Speaker – Charlotte Casebourne, Theolytics
- Best Video/Graphics – Exogene
- Best Scientific Explanation – Exact Sciences Innovation
- Best Joke – Ochre Bio
- Most mentions of the BioEscalator – OxVax
- Most likely future unicorn - PepGen
The BioEscalator Pitch Battle 2021 was a great success. We were very grateful to James Wong from OSI and Placi Espejo from Oxford Tech Park for their expert assistance on the judging panel. I wanted to thank everyone who pitched. We were impressed with the quality of presentations and to highlight that judging the best speaker category was particularly tough!
