Professor Paul Leeson specialises in cardiovascular imaging and preventive cardiology, with a particular focus on the application of artificial intelligence and computational modelling to improve the early detection and prevention of heart disease. His work has generated novel insights into cardiovascular development and disease progression, underpinning advances in diagnostic innovation.
He founded the Oxford Cardiovascular Clinical Research Facility and has led large-scale, multi-centre imaging studies across the UK. His research group pioneered the development and application of AI to echocardiography, creating world-leading intellectual property that has supported next-generation diagnostics.
While Academic Founder, Non-Executive Director and Chief Medical Officer of Ultromics, Professor Leeson helped translate academic innovation into a globally recognised health technology company. Through his strategic leadership as Academic Lead for Innovation at Oxford, he continues to strengthen translational research, support spinout creation, and champion biomedical entrepreneurship.
