The company is focused on developing technology designed to help damaged or ageing cells recover their ability to produce energy. Its work centres on mitochondrial transplantation, an emerging area of regenerative medicine that aims to restore cellular function and support recovery in ageing or damaged tissue. It has been awarded an Innovate UK Engineering Biology Feasibility Grant to validate its platform and will be carrying out this work at the BioEscalator.
The founders
Abhishek Srivastava and Jay Siddharth co-founded Recondria Therapeutics.
Abhishek was previously an Innovate UK-funded postdoctoral researcher in the University of Oxford’s Department of Oncology, working under Professor Len Seymour. He also served as a Senior Scientist at OXGENE, which was founded by Ryan Cawood, now the founder of fellow BioEscalator company Icosphere Biosciences. Abhishek’s previous experience also includes roles at AstraZeneca and Cytiva.
Jay Siddharth brings international R&D and commercialisation experience across life sciences, nutrition, health and wellness, and pharmaceuticals. His previous roles include Chief Scientific Officer at Bioseutica and Investment Director, Corporate Ventures at ADM. His work has focused on supporting innovation from early-stage research through to product development and launch.
Together, the founders bring a combination of scientific, translational and commercial expertise to the development of Recondria’s platform.
Why did they choose the BioEscalator?
Recondria Therapeutics’ work relies on access to laboratory infrastructure and a strong translational ecosystem. The BioEscalator provides access to shared laboratory facilities, enabling the company to begin work straight away. Proximity to Oxford’s research community and opportunities to develop academic and industry collaborations will support the company’s ongoing technical development.
The BioEscalator looks forward to supporting Recondria Therapeutics as the company continues to grow within the community.
